New Events at Local Economy
Hello friends!
Thanks for signing up to hear more about what's happening at Local Economy. We're busily preparing to open our doors on October 1 (!). We're not having a big launch party (yet), but we're really looking forward to everyone being able to see the space. It's really coming along.

This email is to give you a heads up for events and classes you can register for. We've added nine (!) new events since our last email. So, behold, thirteen events just for you between now and mid-November!
October 3: Come Meet Coyote Media. You can celebrate the launch of this new worker-owned journalism collective and be one of the first people to see Local Economy.
October 10: My Life's Work with Diane Ehrensaft. Ehrensaft is the author of several books including The Gender Creative Child and Gender Explained, as well as serving as the Director of Mental Health at UCSF’s Child & Adolescent Gender Center.
October 15: Caregiver Storytime. Story time is great, no matter how it works. BUT, Patricia Zaballos brings you a literary series that’s for the caregivers, not the cared for. Babies & toddlers welcome, but not required.
October 17: Quiet Noisy Night with Mac Barnett. This is gonna be so fun. Mac is one of the great promoters and defenders of picture books. And we're going to read Margaret Wise Brown's surreal children's book, The Quiet Noisy Book. This is also going to be interactive in an interesting way. You'll have to sign up to find out how.
October 21: A conversation with Oakland's head of transportation. Come learn more about all the issues with Oakland transit and transport. Hosted by SPUR.
October 28: Freelancer meetup! This daytime session hosted by Cherlyn Wagner is a way for people working on their own to spend some time commiserating and planning.
October 28: Jeff Chang! Talking about Bruce Lee! Bestselling author Jeff Chang has written the definitive book about Bruce Lee, including his pivotal moments in the Bay Area. Jeff and I (Alexis) will be in conversation about these Pacific cultural and economic circuits.
November 1: Community collage. Come explore the democratic art form.
November 2: Poets Emilie Lygren, Deema Shehabi, and Marilyn Hacker. Celebrate the release of two new books of poetry. Lygren's Once I was a stone and Shehabi and Hacker's Water to Water: Gaza Renga.
November 3: The Present Moment Game. There are a couple slots left for this meditative practice organized by Alli Magidsohn.
November 5: Bookseller Holiday Preview! Brad Johnson from East Bay Booksellers and Stephen Sparks from Pt. Reyes Books tell us what books to buy for our fool-hearted friends.
November 9: Works-in-Progress x MIPSLIP. For our second round of the Works-in-Progress series, we’re partnering with MIPSLIP, an ongoing gathering for sharing recent creative work. You bring a recent or unfinished creative work and come prepared to share why it is meaningful to you.
November 10/17/24: Writing Place, with Alexis Madrigal. Hi. I am teaching my first class. I'll show you some tricks I've learned and we'll practice writing about place.
